The new 15,000-square-foot store — the home goods retailer’s largest store in Puerto Rico — is located at the Mayaguez Mall, at Borders’ former location, and it required an investment of approximately $900,000.

Anna’s Linens announced that, after the favorable reception it has had since entering the local market, the retailer decided to open its sixth store in Puerto Rico ahead of schedule.

The new 15,000-square-foot store — the home goods retailer’s largest store in Puerto Rico — is located at the Mayaguez Mall, at Borders’ former location, and it required an investment of approximately $900,000. The store is scheduled to open its doors Dec. 13.

The retailer opened its first two stores in Puerto Rico in May 2012, in Trujillo Alto Plaza and Ponce Towne Center, establishing historic sales records for the California-based chain. Four months later, on Sept. 6, it opened three new stores simultaneously at Caguas Centro Mall, Plaza Río Hondo Mall in Bayamón, and Plaza del Atlántico Mall in Arecibo.

“The welcome Anna’s Linens has received in Puerto Rico has been unprecedented, for which we are extremely grateful,” said Alan Gladstone, founder, chairman, president, and Chief Executive Officer of Anna’s Linens. “This motivated us to open our sixth store in Mayaguez ahead of schedule, which was originally projected for the first half of 2013.”

Gladstone pointed out that the new Mayaguez store created 30 new jobs, for a total of 170 jobs among the six local stores. He said that during the Christmas season, they will employ approximately 30 people in temporary positions in order to provide the service and unique shopping experience that sets it apart.
