The Coliseo of Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot wrapped up Fiscal 2016 — one of its most successful in its 12-year history — with 103 events, which accounted for a total attendance of more than 700,000 guests and more than $35 million in gross ticket sales, venue officials announced Wednesday.

The Coliseo de Puerto Rico is ranked #13th in the world in Pollstar’s mid-year 2016 rankings of Top 100 Arenas worldwide. The list, compiled by the concert and venue industry publication, reflects tickets sold for events from Jan. 1, 2016 to June 30, 2016.

“We are very pleased to see these fantastic results and that Puerto Rico continues to shine as a profitable destination in the entertainment industry, hosting great performances and being part of the plans of first class superstars and shows,” said Victor Suárez, Puerto Rico’s Secretary of State and director of the Convention District Authority. “We look forward to a successful second half of the year.”

Operated by SMG, Coliseo de Puerto Rico has hosted huge productions in the last fiscal year. Highlights include Madonna for two shows, Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony, Don Omar with Daddy Yankee for four shows, Juan Luis Guerra, Romeo Santos, Marco Antonio Solis, Katy Perry, Chayanne, Yolandita Monge, The Harlem Globetrotters, Megadeth, Alejandra Guzmán, Disney on Ice 100th Anniversary, Sin banderas, Arcángel, Il Volo, Wisín and Duran Duran.

Eduardo Cajina, SMG General manager of the Coliseo de Puerto Rico, credited the success of the venue to managers, promoters and local and international producers “who trust our work, experience and capabilities. And, of course, our fans, who value the quality of the concerts, live entertainment, family events and sports events that we promote and provide for them.”

“This achievement belongs to our team and to the commitment of employees that always go the extra mile for our customers making our venue the best local option for large productions,” Cajina said. “The awards also belong to SMG, the company that has placed Puerto Rico in the entertainment industry map and keeps working hard to integrate us into the tours and agendas of international superstars and artists that otherwise would not consider Puerto Rico as a destination in their plans.

“We are a winning formula as we have the best, largest and most modern venue in Puerto Rico, trained staff and global contacts to operate successfully,” said Jim McCue, Senior Vice President of Entertainment for SMG.

After the success of Maroon 5 earlier in July, the Coliseo de Puerto Rico is looking forward to another successful year with a variety of artists and shows lined up. Among the highlights: Monster Jam, Rubén Blades, Willie Colón Los 50 Años, Julieta Venegas, Laura Pausini, Juan Gabriel, Nicky Jam, Farruko, Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz la Sonora Ponceña, Slayer with Cannibal Corpse, Sin Bandera, Panic at the Disco, Camila and Reik and Maluma.
