e-Crime fighting association to host global summit next month

Cybercrime fighting association APWG is hosting a summit of global authorities Oct. 22-25 in Fajardo, in an effort to coordinate the efforts of cybercrime managers, responders, investigators and researchers in collaboration with professional technology association IEEE, the Organization of American States and ICANN, the manager of the Internet’s identifier system of names and numbers.

The eCrime 2012 conference will be a combined event that includes the 2012 APWG General Meeting, APWG eCrime Researchers Summit, and the ICANN DNS Security, Stability and Resiliency Symposium. This meeting of authorities in cybercrime management and research, presented in cooperation with the OAS and the IEEE, represents an “unprecedented alignment of global authorities in the confrontation with cybercrime,” APWG said in a statement.

“We witness in this fall’s conference a striking coordination of the world’s major cybercrime response authorities from the technical, standards and diplomatic realms,” said APWG Secretary General Peter Cassidy. “In every dimension of this global confrontation, this Fall’s summit is an unprecedented alignment of global institutions in the fight against cybercrime.”

Program discussions will include: Emerging mobile attack schemes and crimeware’s co-evolution with the burgeoning wireless device platforms that are eclipsing the desktop/laptop user environment; Unified infrastructure cleansing such as botnet containment and management; Cybercrime forensic tools and techniques for cybercrime responders and investigators; Behavioral vulnerabilities and human factors that play into the eCriminal’s hands; Industrial and public policies related to cybercrime management and remediation; and The roles of Registrars, Registries in managing phishing attacks and all kinds of cybercrime.
