Puma Energy’s Puerto Rico operations have received the “Top Tier Detergent Gasoline” designation, the highest fuel performance standard, becoming the first and only local brand of gasoline to earn that distinction.

To earn the designation, Puma’s gasoline reached a higher level of engine cleanliness and performance through an optimal selection and application of detergent additives to control deposits, resulting in more effective combustion.

The designation is granted to fuel distributors in the U.S., Canada and now Puerto Rico. The Top Tier designation is sponsored by major automakers, including BMW, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and Audi.

“Puma Energy reaffirms its commitment to the Puerto Rican market by having regular and premium gasoline that meets the Top Tier standards available at its service stations throughout the island,” said Víctor Domínguez, general manager Puma Energy Caribe, LLC. “We’re proud to be the first and only wholesaler in Puerto Rico that provides gasoline with this designation.”

The Environmental Protection Agency sets a minimum additive performance standards to be in compliance with the law. However, Top Tier requirements exceed this minimum, ensuring optimal performance for car engines. Gasolines that lack the Top Tier designation may not contain the optimal amount of detergent additives to improve the vehicle’s performance.

“At Puma we will continue to offer products of the highest quality and also provide the best fuel options on the market,” said Domínguez.
