Energy trade group to meet in Puerto Rico May 14-16

wade_logo_big2The World Alliance for Decentralized Energy (WADE) announced Tuesday its first annual Caribbean Energy Conference, to be held May 14-16, 2014 at the Sheraton Hotel.

The event will focus on energy opportunities and challenges in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Basin and bring together top government officials with key industry leaders from the power, industrial, pharmaceutical, hospitality, maritime, natural gas and power technology sectors to discuss a variety of topics including:

  • Opportunities for gas fired generation and the natural gas supply outlook;
  • Energy reliability, sustainability and affordability;
  • The need for new and efficient grid, and off-grid power;
  • Growing requirements for industrial and commercial power;
  • Changing regulatory landscape for the energy sector; and,
  • New opportunities for shipping sector compliance with Caribbean emission control area mandates.

The roster of event speakers includes local and regional government and private-sector representatives, namely: Resident Commissioner in Washington Pedro Pierluisi; Senate President Eduardo Bhatia; Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority Executive Director Juan F. Alicea; Hugo V. Hodge, executive director, U.S. Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority; David J. Tubman, Jr., counsel to Commissioner William P. Doyle, Federal Maritime Commission; Neil Parsan, Ambassador of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to the U.S. and Mexico; Sue Kelly, CEO of the American Public Power Association; and, Edgar R. Pichardo, chairman of the Management Board, EGE Haina.
