FirstBank and C3Tec join for the environment

The partnership with FirstBank allowed C3TEC to benefit 300 students with workshops planned for 100 students per visit.

In its efforts to promote students’ connections with nature, FirstBank has partnered with the Centro Criollo de Ciencia y Tecnología del Caribe (C3Tec) to offer interactive environmental workshops to 300 first-to-ninth-grade students from public schools located in the Municipalities of Caguas, Cayey, Humacao, Cupey, Santurce, and Carolina.

“At FirstBank we support initiatives to reinforce the knowledge students obtain as part of their school education and curriculum. Our commitment with the community includes promoting positive, healthy behaviors,” said Catherine Ríos, CRA relationship officer at FirstBank.

“Additionally, these workshops gave them the opportunity to learn more about science and technology,” she said.

Meanwhile, Tasha Endara, executive director of C3Tec, said “we hope to become a world-class science center, promoting a scientific and technological culture.”

“This partnership with FirstBank allowed us to benefit 300 students with workshops planned for 100 students per visit. Each group broke up into groups of 25 students who took turns taking four different workshops: Water, Soil, Renewable Energy, and Green Roof,” she said.

“The result was that students strengthened their skills in researching and resolving real-life problems, and learned how to apply these skills in the classroom context,” Endara added.

As an informal learning institution based on the STEAM concept (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics), C3Tec is an exciting space where big and small have the chance to actively participate in innovative exhibitions, programs, and events designed to provide unique experiences.
