Iberia to add free high-speed WiFi across entire fleet
Spanish airline Iberia announced it will begin offering free high-speed Wi-Fi to all passengers across its global network under a new agreement between its parent company, International Airlines Group, and Starlink, the satellite internet service developed by SpaceX.
The new service will be available on both long-haul and short-haul flights and “will be free for all customers” — economy, premium economy and business class, according to the airline.
The upgrade is part of a broader effort to improve the onboard experience by offering a connection that “will enable Iberia customers to enjoy a home-like connection experience on board,” the company said.
Implementation is scheduled to begin in 2026 using Starlink’s low-Earth-orbit satellite network, which provides continuous coverage worldwide, including areas with little or no traditional signal such as the poles.
Starlink’s system will support download speeds of up to 450 megabits per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of up to 70 Mbps, allowing passengers to stream video, use cloud-based tools, play online games and access other high-bandwidth services while in flight.
Iberia said the availability of consistent, high-speed connectivity “anywhere on the planet” will redefine productivity and entertainment options for travelers.
The partnership also advances Iberia’s Flight Plan 2030, the airline’s long-term innovation strategy. The plan identifies technology and digitalization as “essential pillars” and earmarks part of Iberia’s 6 billion-euro investment program for projects in artificial intelligence and its planned aeronautical innovation hub, Iberia City.
According to the company, these initiatives aim to create a “more connected, efficient and sustainable future” while strengthening Iberia’s competitive position in Europe.
With the agreement, Iberia joins a small number of European airlines preparing to offer free Wi-Fi on all routes, reflecting a broader industry shift toward improved in-flight connectivity.
