Menonita Hospitals earn national honors for stroke care excellence
Hospital Menonita Caguas and Hospital Menonita Ponce have received the American Heart Association’s “Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Silver Plus” award for meeting national standards in stroke treatment and care.
The award recognizes the hospitals’ adherence to evidence-based clinical protocols aimed at improving survival rates and reducing long-term disability among stroke patients.
Sistema de Salud Menonita CEO Ricardo Hernández said the distinction reflects the system’s commitment to advancing health outcomes across Puerto Rico.
“Get With The Guidelines provides our multidisciplinary team with access to evidence-based clinical knowledge and guidelines to be applied daily in the care of our patients, which supports a faster recovery,” he said. “Our ultimate goal is for more people in Puerto Rico to live longer, healthier lives.”
To qualify for the award, both hospitals followed stroke treatment protocols consistently for 12 consecutive months. The program also requires patient and family education as part of the recovery process.
In addition to the Stroke Silver Plus award, the hospitals earned the “Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll” recognition, which focuses on improving care for stroke patients with diabetes. Hospital Menonita Caguas also received the “Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite” award for reducing the time between patient arrival and the administration of clot-dissolving treatment.
