Popular launches Mi Banco ‘app’ for Android devices
Forty-three percent of Banco Popular’s 43 online banking customers connect to the service via smartphones.
Six months after introducing its mobile banking application for the iPhone and iPod touch, Banco Popular de Puerto Rico announced the launch of the version for Android devices.
The application is free to download from Google Play and allows users to access their Banco Popular accounts, manage their accounts and balances, review transactions, transfer funds, as well as make and plan payments.
“The Android application aims to facilitate value services for our customers,” said Camille Burckhart, first vice president of Popular technology. “With more than 390,000 customers using ‘Mi Banco’ Online, this tool provides increased availability and convenience to our customers.”
“We try to create products and services that provide immediate benefit and the Android app meets that vision of high quality,” she said, noting that 43 percent of the bank’s online banking customers connect to the service via smartphones.
The Android tool was developed by a group of Puerto Ricans who designed it in a four-month period based on the tastes and needs of current customers. Just as its iPhone predecessor, the Android app allow users to view and save payment receipts, personalize accounts and find ATMs and bank branches using GPS technology.
“The reception given to the iPhone and iPod touch app was amazing and we hope that Android users find the same value,” said Burckhart adding that in its first month of availability, the iPhone and iPhone app was downloaded 73,000 times.
