Evertec Group LLC, the leader in electronic transaction processing in Latin America and the Caribbean, is in the running for the 2013 Innovation Awards bestowed by Informatica Corporation.

Informatica is an independent provider of data integration software and conducts an annual competition to recognize organizations that have demonstrated leadership in the use of its solutions to drive innovation and business success.

The competition includes 11 categories, and Evertec was nominated for the Test Data Management/Data Masking award for it’s masking of sensitive data in test environments project.

“The Informatica platform has helped us meet compliance requirements that are imposed on financial institutions in the Caribbean and in the Region. Through this platform, we ensure that each credit card transaction meets PCI DSS regulatory and audit requirements. This involves the masking of sensitive credit card information so that it may be safely replicated in Evertec testing environments for development, testing, quality control and training purposes,” said Miguel Mercado, chief information officer at Evertec.

The masking process is accomplished via 300 files in 15 applications (equivalent to a terabyte of data) and prevents the unintentional exposure of confidential credit card information. This strategy reduces the risk of data leakage and ensures compliance with PCI DSS standards and data privacy rules as well as other regulations.

“We are focused on maintaining high safety standards and avoiding data loss. Therefore, we integrated our expertise in this area with a platform that enables the complete and secure delivery of data in the production and testing environments”, Mercado added.

The platform has been such a strategic and cost-effective investment, that they are thinking about extending it to other projects, especially those that require data integration, Mercado said. Instead of coding a project from scratch, Evertec can take advantage of its knowledge and experience related to what has already been built, which provides a significant competitive advantage in the market.

The Informatica Awards will be announced during the annual conference to be held June 4-7 in Las Vegas.
