EVERTEC to sponsor P.R. Open golf tournament

The Puerto Rico Open will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year.

EVERTEC, a San Juan-based transaction processing and technology company, announced Wednesday its sponsorship of the Puerto Rico Open, the only PGA TOUR tournament held in the Caribbean, which celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2017.

“EVERTEC and the Puerto Rico Open share the same values: showcasing the best of Puerto Rico and supporting our communities,” said Mac Schuessler, president and CEO of EVERTEC.

“As a regional company based in Puerto Rico, we want to portray the best of our island to both the tourists who attend the event as well as the millions of people who will be watching on TV,” added Schuessler, who has also joined the tournament’s Advisory Board.

Over the past two years, EVERTEC has increased its corporate responsibility programs, investing more than $250,000 in 2016 to relevant causes. EVERTEC’s sponsorship of the Puerto Rico Open helps support the Puerto Rico Open’s longstanding commitment to contribute to the communities where PGA TOUR players live and where its tournament are played.

For the past decade, the Puerto Rico Open has contributed more than $1 million to numerous local charity organizations.

This year, the Puerto Rico Open has committed a $100,000 donation to the Ricky Martin Foundation, and will also support such nonprofit organizations as Agenda Ciudadana, Jóvenes de Puerto Rico en Riesgo, YMCA, among others.

“We are pleased to welcome EVERTEC as a sponsor of the Puerto Rico Open this year and look forward to the company’s continued support of this tournament that contributes so much to the island and its communities,” said David H. Chafey,Jr., Puerto Rico Open Advisory Board chairman
