A year after making its local debut in Carolina, Famous Dave’s is opening its second BBQ restaurant in Bayamón today — a $2 million, 6,000 square-foot operation that will generate 275 jobs.

Different from its older sibling, this new restaurant will feature the first so-called “Ice Bar,” from which it will serve beer at a chilly 32 degrees, company executives said.

“In Bayamón, we continue our expansion route and we hope to continue garnering the support of the locals, because Famous Dave’s is a sure winner when offering the best quality and flavor in BBQ meals,” said Jorge Colón-Gerena, CEO of Famous Dave’s Puerto Rico.

The opening of Famous Dave’s at Plaza Escorial in Carolina a year ago won the award for record opening week sales for the entire chain, he said.

Backed by a number of industry and restaurant awards for its BBQ menu, the local franchisee is expecting customers to come for the ribs as well as the atmosphere. The spacious restaurant can accommodate 263 patrons who can catch their favorite sports or special event on seven large-screen TVs placed throughout the casual-dining eatery.
