Gatsby has 10 stores in Puerto Rico, four in Isla Margarita in Venezuela and the recently opened location in Santo Domingo.

Puerto Rican women’s apparel retailer Gatsby is keeping its international expansion plans alive through the recent opening of its new 22,000 square-foot store in the Dominican Republic, the first of at least five that are slated to open in the next four years, company officials said Wednesday.

Gatsby invested $1.5 million in the new store located at the new Galería 360 shopping center in Santo Domingo. The new location employs 20 people and carries on Gatsby’s strategy of offering the latest clothing, accessory and footwear to the young consumer.

“Gatsby girl is young, independent, entrepreneurial, casual, trendy, socially conscious, technological and seeks value for their money. Gatsby is an extension of the lifestyle of its customer,” said Ana Galliano, communications manager for Grupo Gatsby.

The executive said that the new store’s design emphasizes on the details so “customers feel a special atmosphere upon arriving.”

“The design is linked to Gatsby’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Many many details have been incorporated, such as LED lighting, the use of recycled materials and the concept of upsidegreen (also known as upcycling), where discarded materials are reused in an innovative way,” said Galliano.

Gatsby has also integrated technology in the store through the use of iPads that feature catalogs of the new collections on sale and provide access to social networks. The store also features the Dominican Republic’s first interactive storefront, company officials said.

Fashion consultants are also on hand to offer personalized service so that clients can “achieve the perfect outfit for every lifestyle,” the retailer’s executives said.

The Dominican Republic store follows a prototype first used by Gatsby when it opened a store in Venezuela, in May 2012. In addition to exporting this concept, the company is supporting that operation in different areas, exporting from Puerto Rico everything from clothing to intellectual material such as information systems, point of sale programs and advertising campaigns.
