The Casa Bacardí Visitor Center and entrepreneur Julio Canales announced Wednesday the upcoming opening of Georgina Cocina Local, an eatery located on the premises of Bacardí rum distillery in Cataño.

With a $125,000 investment, Georgina will be located next to the bat pavilion, in the 2,400 square-foot space that housed the Bacardí store that has been recently relocated.

“The concept of the restaurant is focused on the gastronomic delights of Puerto Rico and Cuba and will represent a new gastronomic offering, for local audiences, designed to appeal to the hundreds of thousands of tourists who visit this iconic Bacardí rum Visitor Center annually,” said Canales, who will be responsible for the operations of Georgina.

With this opening, which creates 30 new jobs — 20 direct and 10 indirect — Canales officially begins his new role as an independent entrepreneur, through his company. In addition to the operations of Georgina, his company manages four other concepts of restaurants and/or lounges in the metropolitan area.

“With the opening of this restaurant, Bacardí is once again making history, as this is the first time that we create such a concept in one of our distilleries,” added Joaquín Bacardí III, president of Bacardi Corporation in Puerto Rico and a member of the 5th generation of the Bacardí family.”

“Puerto Rican chefs Hedwill Martínez and Carlos Pimentel will be responsible for the design and preparation of the menu, which will include a variety of gastronomic delights, presented with a unique twist, many of them with the use of rum Bacardí as a special ingredient,” Bacardí said.

Georgina Cocina Local will accommodate 75 guests and will open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., starting June 18th.
