PPG Architectural Coatings will convert its architectural coatings manufacturing plant in Carolina to a large-scale distribution center.

PPG Architectural Coatings announced that it will be pulling the plug on the production of Glidden and Superior brand paints at its Carolina facility, which will be converted to a large-scale distribution center.

The conversion of the facility will take place through the end of the second quarter and will impact approximately 30 jobs. Production will be shifted to stateside plants.

“PPG remains committed to serving its customers in Puerto Rico. As part of its efforts to improve the performance of its business on the island in the current challenging economic conditions in Puerto Rico, the company will convert its architectural coatings manufacturing plant in Carolina to a large-scale distribution center, replacing its current, leased distribution facility,” the company said in a statement.

The company had been manufacturing paint products in Puerto Rico for two decades.

PPG will continue to have operations and points of distribution on the island, including 43 company-owned stores, which is more than any other paint company on the island, more than 100 independent dealer locations, distribution through big-box retailers and more than 200 employees.
