Kona Grill restaurant to open at Mall of San Juan in ’15

Modern American grill and sushi bar, Kona Grill, will be opening its first restaurant outside the continental United States on the island in 2015, when it takes its place among some of the world’s most high-end retailers at The Mall of San Juan, this media outlet confirmed.

The Arizona-based restaurant chain specializes in freshly prepared food, personalized service, and a warm contemporary ambiance that creates an exceptional, yet affordable dining experience. The menu features a diverse selection of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, chicken, seafood, steaks, pasta, and pizzas that incorporate more than 40 signature sauces and dressings that are made from scratch using high-quality, fresh ingredients.

Kona Grill also offers a wide selection of sushi, including sashimi, traditional favorites, and several proprietary dishes, according to its description on its website.

Jessica Ostot, marketing coordinator for Kona Grill, confirmed the opening, saying “we’re very excited about this opportunity.”

“Stay tuned for more details as we release them,” she said in an email.

Kona Grill Inc., parent company of the restaurant chain, revealed plans to open several restaurants this year and next, for which it has already signed leases.

“We are very excited about the future of our company as we plan to open at least four new restaurants in 2014, one of which has already opened. We have announced signed leases for two restaurant openings in 2015 and many other sites are at various stages in the lease negotiation process,” the company said in its recently released 2013 annual report.

Kona Grill restaurants offer guests distinct dining areas, including a main dining room, full service bar, patio and sushi bar. Typical restaurants — of which there are 24 locations nationwide — seat approximately 275 guests and are open daily for lunch and dinner.

The restaurant will join a number of high-end tenants that have already confirmed their presence at the mall, including Louis Vuitton and Gucci, when it opens in March 2015.
