Hato Rey’s Polytechnic University opens Florida campus

Following a $2.9 million investment, the Polytechnic University announced Monday its expansion into the Central Florida region, with the inauguration of its new 40,000 square-foot campus.
The Orlando campus features 16 classrooms, as well as labs for civil, electrical, computer, civil, and chemical engineering courses. A gym and soccer field round out the new facilities’ offerings, Polytechnic University President Ernesto Vázquez-Barquet said.
“Today we expand horizons,” said Vázquez-Barquet. “I am proud to announce that we have begun operations in our new academic campus in the City of Orlando, Florida,”
The university, which this year marks its 45th anniversary, has already enrolled 250 students at its stateside university, seeking bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Engineering and Business Administration, he said.
In addition, the Orlando campus has struck a collaboration agreement with Valencia Community College, through which engineering students that have obtained their associates degree will receive credit if they transfer to the Polytechnic campus to obtain a bachelor’s degree.
The Orlando Polytechnic University is also running an internship program with a number public and private sector organizations, including General Electric and NASA, and is working on establishing student exchange programs with colleges in other countries.
“We plan to continue to grow and evolve with more classrooms, online and hybrid courses, as well as new academic programs in other areas of knowledge such as Architecture and Mechanical Engineering,” said José O. Rivera, director of the Florida campus and Dean of the School of Management at the Polytechnic’s Hato Rey campus.
