California-based Human Health Vending is making its debut in Puerto Rico, partnering with local entrepreneur Angel Cintrón, who will be installing the healthful vending machines in metro area schools, community centers, hospitals and corporate buildings.

The first machines will be installed at the Colegio San Ignacio and Colegio Puertorriqueño de Niñas, giving students access to foods and drinks that meet a high caliber of nutrition standards.

Additional locations that partner with Cintrón will join a network of more than 750 state-of-the-art machine locations across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, the company said Tuesday.

“My wife was a school teacher and currently operates a children’s gym, so it is very important for us to walk the walk and set an example for our children and today’s society in general,” said Cintrón. “But we also realize life is about balance; and I do love to have a ‘tostón’ on occasion.”

Human’s vending machines are the first full-service vending solution offering only healthful snacks, drinks and entire meals along with health education streamed digitally via 23-inch LCD screens attached to the machines. The LCD screens can educate consumers on the products in the machine as well as give general nutrition advice, such as how to read a nutrition label, right at the point of sale.

Additionally, the machines allow operators to monitor product inventory and expiration dates remotely, which creates a more efficient and eco-friendly business model.

“Over the last few years, the growth in demand for ultra-convenient healthy products has been staggering,” states Andy Mackensen, co-Founder of Human Healthy Vending. “The Human Healthy Vending Program, with its unique line-up of snack, beverage, full-meal, and gourmet coffee machines, enables locations like schools, hospitals, YMCAs, and gyms to offer tasty, healthy snacks that their people want.”

During the summer months, Human added operator partners and HUMAN Healthy Vending machines in Hempstead, NY, Durham, NC, Cincinnati, OH, Baltimore, MD, Whitney Point, NY, Pasadena, CA, Bradenton, FL, San Antonio, TX, Scottsdale, AZ, Atlanta, GA, Anchorage, AK, Stamford, CT, Frederick, MD, Oklahoma City, OK, Orange County, CA, Bozeman, MT, Portsmouth, NH, Killeen, TX, Laredo, TX, Bedford, MA, Charlotte, NC, San Francisco, CA, Eatontown, NJ, Martinsburg, WV, Las Vegas, NV, Nashville, TN, Vancouver, BC, and Mount Juliet, TN.

Nearly 66 percent of Puerto Rico’s population was considered overweight or obese in 2010, so “it’s clear that vending machines should be a part of the solution by remedying this void in access,” the company said.
