Liberty to air SJ Children’s Choir Christmas concert

The choir, one of the community organizations supported by the Liberty Golf Invitational Tournament, is renowned as one of the best in the world.

Liberty Puerto Rico, along with the Puerto Rico Public Broadcasting Corporation (WIPR), will broadcast the annual San Juan Children’s Choir Christmas concert on Dec. 24, 31 and Jan. 5 through CableVision (Ch. 10/Ch. 210 HD), the company announced.

The concert was held Dec. 17 at the Antonio Paoli Festival Hall of the Luis A. Ferré Center for the Performing Arts in Santurce, as a Christmas gift for the carrier’s customers. The concert, which celebrates the choir’s 50th anniversary, will be broadcast without commercial interruptions on those dates at 8 p.m.

The concert will also be broadcast by WIPR TV (Channel 6 in Liberty’s digital standard lineup and channel 206 in its high definition lineup) on Dec. 25 at 7:30 p.m., on Jan. 1 at 9:30 a.m. and on Jan. 6 at 6 p.m. Those transmissions will be simultaneously streamed through WIPR’s web page.

“We want to give this transmission to our customers as a gift for the second year in a row, not only to share this beautiful Christmas show, but also to celebrate the choir’s 50th anniversary,” said Naji Khoury, president and CEO of Liberty Puerto Rico. “This is a community organization that we have supported for several years and we recognize the extraordinary work that it does, particularly with children’s musical education.”

“We’re very pleased to have Liberty’s support for another year, especially in the celebration of our 50th anniversary,” said María Gabriela Fernández-Cerra, director of the San Juan Children’s Choir. “Our history is full of unforgettable moments and we are very happy to reach all Puerto Rican homes through these broadcasts.”

The concert revisited some of the most significant moments in the choir’s musical history and provided a selection of musical productions that the choir had showed in the past. It also presented numbers from its traditional Christmas repertoire. Around 100 children and more than 50 former members participated in this celebration.

“The San Juan Children’s Choir is one of the greatest cultural treasures that Puerto Rico has and we’re very pleased to work with Liberty to bring this beautiful concert to our viewers,” said Cecille M. Blondet, president of the Puerto Rico Public Broadcasting Corporation.
