José Juan Dávila, vice president and general manager of AT&T Mobility has been named the head of both the wireless carrier and DirecTV, which will begin consolidating their Puerto Rico operations as part of the $50 billion merger agreement completed last year.

In addition, DirecTV Puerto Rico’s operations will be consolidated with AT&T’s new entertainment division in the U.S. mainland, as part of an effort to continue increasing its competitive position in the local market, Jeff McElfresh president of DirecTV Latin America, said Tuesday.

“It ‘s a priority for us to conduct a transparent union focused on continuing to provide the best products, services and expertise to our customers and partners,” said Davila, who has led AT&T Mobility Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands for the past 10 years.

Together, the companies are working to incorporate content and make it available where required by the consumer — from the comfort of their home on their TVs, to outside their home via mobile, tablet or laptop devices — using the best network in Puerto Rico, executives said.

Thelma López, who headed DirecTV Puerto Rico in recent years, will continue working for the company in an executive position within the company’s Latin American regional group.
