Swedish clothing retailer H&M will make its Puerto Rico debut with two stores next year, with the first one likely to open at Plaza del Sol in Bayamón, for which it is already seeking management staff, according to its website.

A second store is headed for The Mall of San Juan, as confirmed by William S. Taubman, COO of mall owners Taubman Centers earlier this year. H&M operates more than 3,700 stores in 61 countries and has about 132,000 employees.

Also headed for The Mall of San Juan are market newcomers Stuart Weitzman, a high-end shoe retailer, and bohemian fashion retailer Free People. In preparation for its arrival, Stuart Weitzman last week posted job openings for an assistant store manager and sales associate for the future store to be located next to Lululemon Athletica.

Meanwhile, Free People has confirmed it will open its first boutique in Puerto Rico on Nov. 27, with a slew of special events for Black Friday.

Over at Plaza Las Américas, four new tenants — Flip Flop Shops, Gadget Studio by Otto, Kury Alta Relojería and Leonisa — will open their doors in time for the holiday shopping season, mall officials announced Monday. The newcomers will join Vans and Alex & Ani, which will start operating in coming weeks.

“We continue moving forward with our strategy to offer Plaza customers the most complete shopping experience in Puerto Rico, with more fashion, more food and more entertainment,” said Rafael Ruiz-Comas, director of leasing.

Two other retailers — Aliss and Zen Spa — will open temporary spaces for the holidays, he said.
