Panalpina inaugurated its new Carolina facility Thursday.

Panalpina Puerto Rico, the local subsidiary of Panalpina Group, cut the ribbon Thursday on its new 7,000 square-foot refrigerated warehouse facility that it is touting as the “largest in the Caribbean.” The $1 million facility is the largest in the world for the company.

“These refrigerators will be used mainly by pharmaceutical companies to ensure the quality of unfinished materials as well as consumer products,” said Ricardo Ortiz, vice president of Panalpina Puerto Rico. “The ‘Smart point’ technology, which is the only one in Puerto Rico, allows customers to remotely monitor, 24 hours a day, the right temperature control, ranging from 2⁰ C to 25⁰ C and to verify their cargo from product pickup to delivery.”

Customers will be able to lower their transportation and storage costs, as well as “rely on Panalpina to get their products on time and in perfect condition,” Ortiz said.

The company combines its main storage, air freight, ocean freight and logistics services to provide globally integrated solutions, in a cost-effective manner, according to customer needs.

Panalpina Group operates a global network with 500 offices in more than 80 countries and employs some 15,000 people worldwide.
