The Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico recently signed an agreement with MAPFRE Foundation through which the global insurance company will provide an annual scholarship for post-graduate studies in Spain and five annual scholarships for students specializing in e-learning studies focusing on insurance.

The first scholarship was awarded to student Kenneth Ortíz-Scott, who graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a minor in Management. He will pursue a Master’s degree in Insurance Management and Techniques through e-learning organized by the MAPFRE Foundation in collaboration with the Pontifical University of Salamanca in Spain.

The five annual scholarships for e-learning courses will be awarded to professors or students pursuing studies in at the Polytechnic or who are alumni of this school. This scholarship will cover the full cost of the course, school officials said.

“Through this agreement, MAPFRE Foundation aims to improve knowledge and culture of insurance and risk management through education, which we know will improve the level of training and efficiency of our future insurance professionals, as well the management of companies on the island,” said Iraida Meléndez, vice president of communications and marketing, social responsibility and corporate relations for MAPFRE Puerto Rico.

Meanwhile, the Polytechnic has agreed to organize joint activities with MAPFRE that focus on mutual academic interest such as courses, open seminars or conferences about insurance and risk management, including active participation in the BugaMAP (MAPFRE Business Game) program.
