The Puerto Rico Products Association held its annual convention this weekend, when it unveiled its proposals for economic development as well as elected its new board of directors.

The proposals presented before more than 450 participants encompassed recommendations by 29 different sectors, under the “Transforming Puerto Rico from the inside out” theme.

“This is the first platform for analysis and structured proposals that call for solving Puerto Rico’s crisis, within a framework of convergence by experts in the business, financial and academic sectors,” said Manuel Cidre, president of the trade group.

Among other initiatives, proposals included creating an economic and marketing intelligence center focusing on identifying local and global opportunities; aligning the education sector with economic development opportunities; creating a financing system for education; identifying emerging global markets; and promoting high-impact local investments.

The weekend event also included electing a new board of directors, which will now be chaired by engineer Ricardo Cardona, and includes the following directors: Irma Cartagena, from Scotiabank; José (Tito) Colls, from the Colls Corp.; Francisco Feliú, from Walmart; María Félix, from Able Sales; Eric García, from Acrylic Metal; Ramón Pérez, from Fulcro Technologies; Rose Marie Rodríguez, from Oriental Bank; Migdalia Rosado, from Primex; Frank Sánchez, from Kreston International; and Luis David Stot, from Mentor Technical.
