San Juan among Orbitz.com’s favored family Spring Break spots

San Juan ranked among Orbitz.com’s most popular family spots for the upcoming Spring Break.

While Puerto Rico failed to make the list of Orbitz.com’s list of favorite Spring Break travel locations for the stateside college crowd, San Juan ranked among the online travel site’s most popular family spots for the same week-long period coming up this month.

With Easter falling in March this year, a compacted spring break season is creating more demand within a smaller window for hotels with prices on an upward trend when compared to spring break 2012, Orbitz said.

“After a winter that has packed in one snowstorm after another, a sunny Spring Break is high on the wish list for most travelers and it helps that so many of these hot spots also offer affordable travel deals and a plethora of family activities,” said Orbitz.com Senior Travel Editor Jeanenne Tornatore.

“Whether families are contemplating international travel or staying domestic, the common denominator is the majority of the top spring break destinations offer wonderful weather and activities for every family member, from toddlers and the hard-to-impress teen crowd, to parents hoping to find some relaxation during their family vacation,” she said.

San Juan rounded out the top 10 list of family-oriented travel locations, along with Orlando; Cancún; Fort Myers; Fort Lauderdale; Tampa; Las Vegas; Phoenix; Miami; and Los Angeles.

“Orbitz identified the most popular family spring break spots based on destinations with the most family bookings (three or more people) and provided picks from Orbitz travel experts for locations that truly offer something for everyone,” the online site said.

The editors also picked a handful of other destinations for families looking to avoid the Spring Break college crowd, including St. Pete Beach in Florida’s Gulf coast, London, England, the Bahamas, and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The site also recommended a Disney Cruise Lines trip, saying it is budget-friendly and offers amenities for passengers of all ages, not just small children.
