Sapientis, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting educational leadership in public schools, is carrying out its annual fundraising campaign in alliance with Caribbean Cinemas, through May 14th.

“Caribbean Cinemas’ moviegoers in Puerto Rico will have the opportunity to support children’s educations through the purchase of ‘Yo soy Sapientis’ cards. The funds will be used to continue developing our educational leadership pilot project at five public schools in the metro area,” said Mariely Rivera-Hernández, executive director of Sapientis.

The cards will be sold at $1 each. Moviegoers will be able familiarize themselves with Sapientis’ work through a short documentary produced by former reporter Grenda Rivera that will also be exhibited at the theaters.

Rivera-Hernández explained that, as part of the pilot, Sapientis has established initiatives to promote reading and writing skills in the five schools participating in the pilot.

“Promoting reading and writing skills are fundamental for the success of the educational process in children,” said Rivera-Hernández.
