U.S. Small Business Acting Atlantic Regional Administrator Bernard J. Paprocki announced Tuesday the appointment of Yvette Collazo as the new District Director for the SBA’s Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands district office.

Collazo will oversee and direct the SBA’s efforts to assist small business owners and entrepreneurs throughout the district.

“Yvette will be a great addition to the SBA Atlantic team, and I look forward to working with her to support SBA’s mission in assisting the small business owners and entrepreneurs who are critical to our economic strength,” said Paprocki.

Collazo previously served as a senior advisor at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management in Washington, D.C. leading a research and development team, as well as worked to identify and advance transformational technologies for performance improvement.

Additionally, Collazo has written several technical papers on environmental management and is the recipient of various awards to include the U.S. Secretary of Energy Federal Energy Management Program Award, and the Distinguished Public Service Award by the National Association of Hispanic Federal Executives.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve my homeland and our neighboring U.S. Virgin Islands,” Collazo said. “My goal is to establish close collaborations with the local governments so that together with participating lenders and other partners we are an effective resource to small business owners and entrepreneurs in the district.”

Collazo holds a Master of Science in Environmental Management and a Certificate of Environmental Studies from the Illinois Institute of Technology in addition to a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus.

The U.S. Small Business Administration New York Regional office represents New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the USVI.
