Sophie’s at Saks Fifth Avenue, a luxury restaurant with a varied contemporary menu, recently opened its doors within the newly inaugurated Saks Fifth Avenue store at the Mall of San Juan.

The eatery, which has a capacity for 116 customers split between the main dining room and the bar, offers contemporary American cuisine with a global influence and is prepared with the freshest ingredients, mostly locally sourced.

“Guided by the muse of Sophie Gimbel, who was a visionary of style and fine living, we offer diners an interesting gastronomic experience, with a sophisticated menu, that is also simple in the selection of ingredients. This was the essence of Sophie’s designs and this is the essence that marks our dishes,” said Rubén Álvarez, general manager of the restaurant, which will also be managed by Executive Chef, Ivonne Martínez.

Corporate Executive Chef for Sophie’s, Barcelona-born Chef Alexandro Reyes developed the menu for the local market with Martínez.

Inspired by Sophie Gimbel, the American designer who served as a style consultant for Saks Fifth Avenue for almost 40 years, “Sophie’s captures Gimbel’s essence of style and elegance.”

The restaurant offers a unique experience within the Mall of San Juan for its intimate and sophisticated atmosphere that makes it ideal for business meetings, as well as social gatherings.

The menu will focus on simple ingredients, sourced locally and seasonally, to create contemporary American dishes inspired by Puerto Rican flavors, the executives said.

“Sophie’s seeks to surprise guests with innovative combinations, presenting them in a way that is memorable. Lunch offerings include Quinoa risotto with ‘gandules’ [pigeon peas,] pumpkin, parmesan and young cilantro; a Roasted Salmon and Watercress Salad with shaved asparagus, mango, cucumber and passion fruit vinaigrette and a Coconut Bread Pudding, made with ‘mallorca’ bread, salted caramel, gelato and caramelized almonds,” according to information about the restaurant.

To complement the food, Sophie’s mixologists crafted a beverage menu focusing on fresh, seasonal cocktails and handcrafted sodas, along with a carefully edited wine list. Specialty cocktails include the house drink, Sophie’s Sonnet with golden rum, honey, lime juice and cava.

Sophie’s is located on the second floor of Saks Fifth Avenue, next to the Fifth Avenue Club. The restaurant features a panoramic view of the San José Lagoon, across from the mall that opened Mar. 26, and is only the third to open within the Saks retail chain.
