With the goal of making the process of paying for purchases easier and quicker, Walmart Puerto Rico is introducing “Walmart Pay” – a fast, easy and secure way for customers to pay with their smartphones in Walmart and Amigo stores islandwide, starting today.

With this launch, Walmart becomes the only retailer to offer its own payment solution that works with any iOS or Android device, at any checkout lane, and with any major credit, debit, pre-paid or Walmart gift card – all through the Walmart mobile app, said Iván Báez, director of corporate affairs for the retailer in Puerto Rico.

“We remain focused on providing our customers with a superior shopping experience, so that in addition to quality products at everyday low prices, we want to speed up the payment process to also save time,” he added.

To use the system, customers must download the Walmart app for instructions and registration. When paying for their purchases, consumers will activate the application by scanning the QR code that appears on the cash register after the cashier scans the first item. At checkout, the cashier will press the Walmart Pay button at the cash register, and once completed, the customer will receive an electronic receipt on their phone.

More than 20 million consumers actively use the Walmart app each month and it ranks among the top three retail apps in the Google and Apple app stores, the retailer said.
