Founded in the U.S. by Dan Kim in July 2007, Red Mango has grown to more than 260 locations throughout the U.S., Mexico, El Salvador and Uruguay.

Red Mango, one of the fastest-growing retailers of all-natural nonfat and low fat frozen yogurt and fresh fruit smoothies, is expanding to Puerto Rico with plans to open five stores in the next six months, through a $1.5 million investment that will create 75 jobs, company officials announced Monday.

Plans also call for opening an undisclosed number of additional locations that franchisees Good For You Franchise, LLC and Red Mango FC, LLC will create development agreements across the region.

The first Red Mango store in Puerto Rico will also be among one of the first stores in the Americas with an expanded cafe concept featuring a drive-thru and will open in Puerto Rico Plaza opposite the Inter American University in Rio Piedras in December.

“Puerto Rico, as a market, is fertile and successful for franchise concepts and that is why more and more of them include the island in its expansion plans. Moreover, frozen yogurt and the public’s search of healthy dining options are clearly booming, and with this combination of factors we set out to bring Red Mango to Puerto Rico in a big way,” said Mario Alverio-Dominguez, CEO of  Good For You Franchise, LLC the company behind Red Mango’s expansion into Puerto Rico.

“This franchise offers a completely different product than the ones present in our local market today. Unlike most frozen yogurt stores, Red Mango yogurt is all natural and the ‘cafe restaurants’ will offer an additional menu made with healthy and natural ingredients,” said Alverio-Dominguez, adding the company is currently seeking potential franchisees to open Red Mango locations across the island.

Alverio, a successful entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience in various companies, saw an opportunity for development in Red Mango when he observed the increased interest from local consumers in healthy and nutritious alternatives.

“Besides its natural yogurt, Red Mango Cafe will offer an extensive menu including freshly squeezed juices, natural smoothies and new cafe items such as sandwiches and wraps with less than 500 calories,” he added.

Founded in the U.S. by Dan Kim in July 2007, Red Mango has grown to more than 260 locations throughout the U.S., Mexico, El Salvador and Uruguay and has been recognized by numerous industry awards.

“Puerto Rico represents an exciting opportunity for Red Mango to continue to innovate and differentiate from all other frozen yogurt competitors with our Cafe menu of healthy light foods, fresh squeezed juices and drive-thru service,” said Kim.
