U.S. foundations awarded 263 grants totaling $10.5 million between 2007 and 2009 to recipient organizations in Puerto Rico. But despite the island’s higher poverty rate, stateside foundations gave proportionally less to the territory compared to some states with a similar number of Latinos, according to the “Foundation Funding for Hispanics/Latinos in the U.S. and for Latin America,” study conducted by Hispanics in Philanthropy.
San Diego, CA-based pet specialty retailer Petco quietly opened its first store in Puerto Rico Monday in Río Piedras, setting up shop in a 11,000 square-foot space that houses a full line of grooming services and dog training as well as a watersports department.
Because breakfast is the most important meal of the day, food distributor Happy Products this week loaded up three trucks with more than 13,000 boxes of cereal to be donated to several nonprofits in Puerto Rico.
