Banco Popular Foundation celebrated the academic excellence and commitment to education of about 100 Puerto Rican students through its Rafael Carrión, Jr. Excellence Awards ceremony held this week.

“Education is an integral component of the development of our youth and these students are an example of what academic commitment and perseverance can achieve. At the Banco Popular Foundation we understand the value of education to prepare young Puerto Ricans as the future of the island,” said Beatriz Polhamus, director of the Foundation during its 9th annual ceremony that took place in Santurce.

The awards recognize the achievements of students who graduated high school, seeking to stimulate, recognize and reward academic talent. The award is given on the advice of the Puerto Rico and Latin America College Board office, using as a basis the same proportion of the island’s school population by region and type of school. Also used as a criterion are Assessment Tests and College Admission scores and passing two or more Advanced Placement Program tests.

The Foundation has bestowed more than 1,000 scholarships in 21 years.
