P.R hosts conference on trade reform between Cuba, U.S.

Microjuris.com, the Inter-American Bar Association and the National Organization of Collective Law of Cuba are joining forces to host the “Cuba: Investment, Trade and Financial Guarantees/Forging New Economic Opportunities in the Caribbean” conference Nov. 4-5 at the Puerto Rico Convention Center.
For the first time, Cuban, American and Puerto Rican experts will gather to delve into the significance of the economic and trade liberalization between Cuba and the United States.
The event will address the new legal framework for foreign investment in Cuba established by Act 118 of 2014, which sets forth the special regime for labor affairs, banking, taxation, dispute resolution, guarantees for investment and 100 percent foreign corporate capital models.
The current regulatory framework in the United States and Puerto Rico, which details the industries and sectors of the economy in which trade with Cuba is already allowed, shall also be addressed. The conference is designed for asking questions, sharing and building relationships.
“The Conference will provide the most current and reliable information for initiating a plan of approach or acceleration toward and from Cuba,” said Miguel Lausell-Marxuach, president of Microjuris.com. “This is a great opportunity to explore, prepare and develop projects that create opportunities, jobs and value.”
Attorneys Odalys C. Álvarez Lima, arbitrator of the Cuban Court of International Commercial Arbitration, Rodolfo Hernández Fernández , moderator of the Cuban Court of International Commercial Arbitration, and Yanet Souto, moderator of the Cuban Court of International Commercial Arbitration and Industrial Property Agent, will come from Cuba, all with experience in international trade and members of the Specialized Services Law Firm of Cuba.
