The Dorado Beach, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve, in Dorado has earned a nomination for the “Best Achievement in Design” award from luxury travel agency network Virtuoso, becoming one of only 50 properties worldwide vying for the annual award.

The Puerto Rico property is competing against four others: Alpina Gstaad – Gstaad, Switzerland; the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto in Toronto, Canada; the Hotel Maria Cristina, A Luxury Collection Hotel in San Sebastián, Spain; and the Mashpi Lodge – Mashpi Rainforest Biodiversity Reserve, in Ecuador

The hotels are in the running for the award that “recognizes the significance of outstanding architecture and design of a hotel or component therein, whether in new construction, renovation or historic restoration.”

Every year, the Virtuoso network confers its prestigious “Best of the Best” hotel awards, which includes several categories, including “Hotel of the Year,” “One to Watch,” “Most Innovative Guest Experience,” “Best Culinary Experience,” “Best Bar,” “Best Family Program,” “Best Spa,” and “Hotelier of the Year.”

“Virtuoso has been curating a portfolio of the most desired properties worldwide for more than 20 years,” said Albert Herrera, senior vice president of Global Product Partnerships. “The ‘Best of the Best’ hotel awards honor the most exceptional properties within this group, and it is our pleasure to recognize them as well as some of the most respected general managers in the industry.”

Editors of “Virtuoso Life” magazine, the network’s publication, reviewed numerous submissions and researched hundreds of properties to select the award nominees.

Winners will be revealed at the Hotels & Resorts dinner Aug. 14, held during the 25th annual Virtuoso Travel Week in Las Vegas.
