Arcos Dorados opens 3 new McDonald’s in Puerto Rico

Arcos Dorados, the company that operates the McDonald’s brand in Latin America and the Caribbean, announced the opening of three new restaurants in Puerto Rico that will generate a combined 240 jobs, Luis Raganato, regional director of Arcos Dorados said Thursday.

The three new eateries are located in Los Colobos in Carolina, Coto Laurel in Ponce and the Cabrera sector in Hatillo. The associated investment to open the establishments was not disclosed.

“With the opening of these three McDonald’s restaurants, we continue to consolidate our presence and operations in Puerto Rico, while we reaffirm our commitment as a company to support the island’s economic development,” Raganato said.

“With the opening of three new restaurants, Arcos Dorados generates 240 new direct jobs, for a total of about 4,290 jobs on the island, besides providing indirect jobs in the construction phase and in the operation phase of the restaurant through our suppliers and contracting services,” he added.

Arcos Dorados is one of the largest employers in Latin America and a leading choice for young people looking for their first job.

“That is precisely our greatest contribution to all the countries in Latin America and the Caribbean in which we operate: Trained, responsible and productive people who are directly involved and take a starring role in the growth of their country,” Raganato said, during the opening of the Los Colobos restaurant, which is the sixth location in the town of Carolina.

New restaurants are in line with the modern design the brand has been rolling out since 2010, which integrate an air-conditioned play area for kids, a comfortable dining area, parking and a drive-through window.

Present at the opening ceremony was Puerto Rico Trade and Export Executive Director Francisco Chévere who said the government has developed strategies so that companies such as Arcos Dorados continue contributing to the island’s economic development.

“These initiatives are working, and evidence of this is that this week we have announced the creation of more than 700 new jobs in different sectors and industries such as transportation, tourism, services and restaurants, including the 240 direct jobs that Arcos Dorados announced today,” Chévere said.

McDonald’s partners with Sports & Rec
In related news, earlier this week, the fast-food chain announced its role as corporate partner — along with the Department of Sports and Recreation — in the “McDonald’s School Sports Fair” taking place in Mayagüez through Saturday.

The initiative benefits the island’s 1,500 public schools that take part in the fair every year, Sports and Recreation Secretary Ramón Orta said.

“This represents another great opportunity to promote physical activity and sport through a partnership at the local scale. We’re excited to be able to provide new sports uniforms to these young people for this event, which covers nine disciplines during this semester,” Raganato said.
