Doral Bank announced Thursday the return of its “Ruta Mujeres d Éxito” educational initiative that supports professional and entrepreneurial women free of charge. The events will take place on Saturdays, June 8, 15, 22 and 29 at Doral’s Mayagüez, Ponce Town Center, Río Grande and San Juan (Roosevelt Avenue) branches from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Ruta Mujeres d Éxito is an expansion of Doral’s community program, “Mujeres d Éxito,” which supports the economic development of Puerto Rican women through capital and mentorship initiatives. Doral held the first “Ruta” event in October 2012, helping more than 500 women by providing them with tools and entrepreneurial knowledge, bank officials said.

“Women have a very important role in the economy of Puerto Rico. Many of them are head of households, and one in every three is the leader of a home,” said Jesús Méndez, executive vice president at Doral Bank. “As women’s participation in the workforce increases, so does her responsibility in the financial decision making process. When we support her development, we drive Puerto Rico’s economy and job creation forward.”

This initiative works with partners that provide educational seminars in subjects such as business ideas, human resources, online businesses, finance and time management, among others.

The expert speakers in charge of these educational workshops are: Eva Vázquez from Grupo Guayacán, Marta Colón from Buena Gente & Co.; Sandrysabel Ortiz from Shoe Square Inc.; Denise Román from PMA Services; Beatriz Ferreira from Real Business Personnel; and Frances Ríos from Frances Ríos Communications. Actress Alexandra Malagón will host each event.

“With this second ‘Ruta Mujeres d Éxito,’ we will visit other cities, providing a new educational program to continue developing the professional woman. We firmly believe in providing opportunities for more women to succeed,” said Lucienne Gigante, senior vice president of marketing, public relations and community at Doral.

In addition to educational workshops, women visiting the “Ruta” workshops will have a chance to get orientation from representatives from the Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association for orientation AsoPymes, the Small and Medium-Sized Businesses Association. Make-up house Lancôme will be on hand offering beauty tips to highlight their professional image, while manufacturer Tres Monjitas will offer refreshments.

Since launching the “Ruta” program in 2011, Doral has invested about $2 million in initiatives to support women’s entrepreneurial and professional development. In just a year, “Mujeres d Éxito” has created about 50 jobs, has been part of the growth of more than 20 companies, and has offered professional tools to more than 500 women across the island.
