Grupo Guayacán Inc. and Entrepreneurs Organization announced a partnership to support student entrepreneurs by hosting a local qualifying competition for EO’s Global Student Entrepreneur Awards, a global competition for student entrepreneurs who actively run a for-profit business, while attending a college or university.

EO is the only global network exclusively for entrepreneurs with more than 10,000 members across 40 countries, all of who own businesses with revenues exceeding $1 million per year. EO helps entrepreneurs learn and grow through peer-to-peer learning, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and connections to experts.

“The GSEA is an official program of EO. Much greater than the competition aspect, this program is about mentorship, encouragement and global engagement. Members of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization from around the world volunteer their time to mentor GSEA students and help them understand the ‘why’ of being an entrepreneur along with savvy entrepreneurial enrichment and experience sharing that is invaluable,” said Blair Assaly, EO’s Global Chairman.

Through the Puerto Rico EO GSEA, student entrepreneurs will compete for a spot at EO’s 2015 Global Finals where they will face 43 finalists from over 20 countries, representing an exclusive opportunity for networking, identifying resources, and growing their businesses. Worldwide more than 1,600 applicants have competed through GSEA, representing over 32 countries.

The winner of the Puerto Rico competition will receive a free trip to the Global Finals, which will be held on April 15-17th, 2015 in Washington, DC. At the GSEA Finals, the winner will receive $20,000 in cash, with second and third place prizes of $10,000 and $5,000, respectively.

Winners will also receive free business products and services, including Web services, public relations, consulting, and more. Additional awards are given for Social Impact, Innovation, and Lessons from the Edge. The local winner will also receive all-access passes for the 2015 H3 Tech Conference.

“At Guayacán we are excited to partner with the organizers of the H3 Tech Conference and EO to provide access for local student entrepreneurs to this global platform that showcases and supports young entrepreneurs. The winner from the local competition will have a unique opportunity for meeting successful entrepreneurs, obtaining valuable feedback on their businesses, and building an international network of mentors, resources, and peers”, said Laura Cantero, Grupo Guayacán’s executive director.

To qualify for the competition, participants must comply with the following requirements:

  • Be an undergraduate student at a recognized university or college and enrolled in school at the time of application.
  • Be the owner, founder or controlling shareholder of their company and principally responsible for its operation.
  • The student’s company must have been in business for at least the past six consecutive months, and must be a for-profit business.

Interested participants must complete an online application at: http://www.gsea.org/apply on or before February 28, 2015.
