UPR-Aguadilla provides free income tax return services
Federal tax reforms will be filled out free of charge at the campus library.
The University of Puerto Rico in Aguadilla announced Tuesday it will be offering free help to low and middle-class residents to fill their federal income tax return, Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the campus library through April 11.
The UPR-Aguadilla Virtual Center for Assistance to Taxpayers (known in Spanish as the VITA Center) is part of an alliance with the UPR-Mayagüez western region VITA Center.
“VITA is an assistance program, sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Its purpose is to help low and middle income taxpayers to prepare and submit electronically their income tax returns, completely free of charge,” said Carmen A. Rodríguez, executive assistant to the campus Chancellor Nelson A. Vera-Hernández.
“The VITA program facilitates the income tax fulfillment process in order to make it possible for taxpayers to benefit from all credits they are entitled to by law,” Rodríguez said.
Services are offered by members of the Accounting Students Association of the Business Administration Department, who have been certified by the IRS to provide this service. Several professors are also providing their services voluntarily, the university said.
