Airbnb reports $560M boost from Bad Bunny residency

Benito Antonio Martínez-Ocasio, known by his stage name Bad Bunny, performed a 31-date concert residency in San Juan during the summer.

Puerto Rico’s tourism industry surged this summer as Airbnb reported an estimated $560 million in economic impact linked to Bad Bunny’s concert residency between July and September.

More than 10,000 hosts welcomed roughly 550,000 guests during the three-month stretch, according to data released by the short-term rental platform. Visitors arrived from 1,300 cities and 108 countries, underscoring Puerto Rico’s growing draw as a global destination.

Searches for stays in Puerto Rico spiked more than 140% after the musician announced his residency dates in early July, compared with the same period in 2024. The surge filled rentals at record levels and extended tourism spending to smaller towns and rural areas far from San Juan’s usual hotel zones.

“The results confirm the essential role played by our community of local hosts in welcoming visitors and promoting the island’s economic development,” Airbnb said in a statement. “This surge in travel interest demonstrates how Puerto Rico continues to position itself as a destination that combines music, culture and authentic experiences.”

Local hosts say the momentum was tangible. “I received visits from many individuals and families who were staying at the residence, which had a positive economic impact,” said Laura Torres, who runs La Casita del Abuelo in Cidra. “It also raised awareness of my project and helped promote Cidra worldwide. Many people come from all over to see the place and learn how people lived in the 1950s.”

Airbnb said the benefits reached beyond the metropolitan area, helping restaurants, artisans and transportation providers in communities throughout the island. The company said the results illustrate how community-based tourism can generate lasting, islandwide gains.
