American Airlines further reducing local operations
American Airlines and American Eagle are cutting local operations significantly.
Dallas-Fort Worth-based American Airlines, Puerto Rico’s dominant air carrier, will be cutting five more routes from its schedule out of the Luis Muñoz Marín Airport, including several offered by its regional operator, American Eagle.
The cuts will push to 22 the number of flights the carrier will no longer serve out of San Juan effective April 3.
The routes added Tuesday to the elimination list first unveiled in September are: Anguilla, La Romana, Port of Spain, Puerto Plata and Washington Dulles airport.
After the dust settles, the carrier will offer 36 daily flights through its sister operations out of San Juan, down 38 percent from the 58 flights currently on schedule.
It is not known how many more American Airlines and American Eagle employees will lose their jobs as a result of the additional cuts, according to a story published Monday by Trading Markets.com.
