Plaza Las Américas, Liberty team up to offer free Wi-Fi
Plaza’s free Wi-Fi service will allow mall-goers to access the Internet at high speeds.
Plaza Las Américas and Liberty Puerto Rico announced Wednesday the launch of Plaza Wi-Fi, a wireless network to access high-speed Internet in all of the shopping center’s common areas. High-speed Internet access is provided by Liberty in a collaboration agreement between the two companies.
Access to this network is free for visitors while they are in Plaza and it is already available for their use from any mobile device with wireless access capacity such as smartphones, tablets and laptops. Plaza’s visitors can surf the Internet, send and receive e-mails, share pictures and videos, plus many other functions, company officials said.
“Plaza is now the largest ‘hotspot’ in Puerto Rico thanks to this technology, which will allow our visitors to always stay in touch within a coverage radius of more than 400,000 square feet,” said Franklin Domenech, the shopping mall’s general manager.
For his part, Naji Khoury, president of Liberty Puerto Rico, added, “We are very pleased that Plaza Las Américas chose us as its business partner to provide this service. This is testimony of our capacity to serve large companies and offer reliable and safe Internet service.”
“This wireless Internet connection service will allow the shopping mall’s visitors to enjoy a more complete, diverse and enriching experience. Now more than ever, PLAZA is the center of everything,” added Khoury.
This system is made up of several access points connected to a fiber optic network that covers all of the center’s common areas such as its halls, atriums and food areas. Customers will have to sign up to be able to use the service for a limited time, while at the mall.
