ASG opens RFI for AI solutions to modernize government services

Karla Mercado, administrator of the Puerto Rico General Services Administration and chief government procurement officer

The Puerto Rico General Services Administration (ASG) has launched a request for information (RFI) to gather input from technology providers with expertise in artificial intelligence, aiming to accelerate the integration of AI tools across government agencies and municipalities.

“The world has changed, and the government must be at the forefront,” said ASG Administrator Karla Mercado. “The goal of this call is to hear directly from experts in the technology sector to identify artificial intelligence solutions that drive operational efficiency, citizen access and data-driven decision-making.”

The RFI is open to companies with proven experience in deploying AI in the public sector or large-scale organizations. ASG is particularly interested in technologies such as virtual assistants, predictive modeling, intelligent data analysis, process automation and computer vision.

Submissions may also include generative AI, autonomous agents, software as a service (SaaS) or hybrid models, and certifications related to security and sustainability.

Mercado clarified that the RFI is not a formal procurement process but a preliminary step to guide future bidding opportunities. “We want to identify viable, safe, and ethical alternatives aligned with the government’s transparency and efficiency standards,” she said.

An informational session will be held July 17 at the Minillas Government Center in San Juan. Questions must be submitted by July 22, and full responses are due by July 30 in PDF format.

ASG is encouraging interested parties to visit its website for updates. Selected proposals may lead to follow-up meetings with technical teams, helping to shape Puerto Rico’s next stage of digital transformation.
