Ashford Presbyterian earns ‘Mentor Hospital’ distinction

The Ashford Presbyterian Community Hospital, best known as the “Presby,” recently earned the “Mentor Hospital” distinction from the Health Research & Educational Trust, an affiliate of the American Hospital Association, the hospital announced.
The San Juan hospital was the only Puerto Rican institution to receive the distinction among some 234 chosen healthcare facilities. Selected hospitals will have a decisive role in the responsibility to disseminate innovations to improve safety that have proven successful in other hospitals, through intensive training and technical assistance programs.
The Presby landed the title for its score in the level of progress assessment, which recognizes the advances the medical institution has demonstrated among institutions participating in the Hospital Engagement Network project.
The Presby is one of 61 hospitals in Puerto Rico to participate in this initiative, which aims to reduce by 40 percent the rates of preventable conditions acquired in hospitals and readmissions by 20 percent by the end of this year 2013, when compared with 2010 data.
“We’re very pleased about this recognition to the leadership and commitment assumed by our hospital’s clinical and administrative staff related to participating in the HEN project,” said Pedro González, the hospital’s executive director.
“Being recognized for our performance as an experienced and reliable counselor for other hospitals poses a challenge to continue with an even stronger commitment on the path to excellence pursued by HEN,” he said.
