AT&T adds 3 more towns to 4G LTE footprint

AT&T de Puerto Rico Rico has turned on its 4G Long-Term Evolution network in the Yauco, Guayama and the San Germán-Cabo Rojo, adding 26 new towns to its service footprint outside the San Juan metropolitan area, the company announced Monday.
“We continue to see demand for mobile Internet skyrocket, and our 4G LTE network in Puerto Rico responds to what customers want from their mobile experience — more, faster, on the best devices,” said Ray Flores, regional vice president, AT&T Puerto Rico & U.S. Virgin Islands.
As of this week, customers in Arecibo, Arroyo, Barceloneta, Cabo Rojo, Camuy, Coamo, Florida, Guanica, Guayama, Guayanilla, Hatillo, Humacao, Isabela, Lajas, Las Piedras, Manati, Maunabo, Morovis, Patillas, Penuelas, Quebradillas, Sabana Grande, Salinas, San German, Yabucoa, and Yauco will have access to the faster speeds and response times LTE offers.
The expansion nearly doubles AT&T’s LTE offering in Puerto Rico, where the infrastructure had already been available for 34 towns.
AT&T began rolling out its next-generation LTE network in November 2011, parallel to the stateside launch. Even as AT&T continues to expand its 4G LTE coverage, customers can get 4G speeds outside of 4G LTE areas on its 4G HSPA+ network.
The island’s largest wireless carrier has coupled its network overhaul with the addition of 4G LTE-ready smartphones and tablets, such as the Sony Xperia TL, the LG Optimus G, the Samsung Galaxy S III, the Motorola ATRIX HD, the HTC One X, the Nokia Lumia 920, the Samsung Galaxy Note II, the HTC One X+, the Samsung ATIV smart PC and the ASUS VivoTab RT.
