Autocentro to invest $5M in Nissan, Toyota dealerships

Puerto Rican firm Autocentro announced Wednesday a $2.5 million investment to open a new Nissan dealership in San Juan, spanning 39,000 square feet and creating 50 jobs. The new operation will open in January.
The company also plans to renovate its used car facilities, at a cost of $1 million, and another $1.5 million to remodel and expand its Toyota dealership. While the first project will begin in January and be completed in June 2016, the overhaul of the Toyota operation will begin in February and be completed by August 2016, company executives said.
Marimer Martínez, executive vice president of Autocentro Toyota, said the company’s new and used car sales have increased 20 percent over last year, while car sales in Puerto Rico in general have fallen by about 9 percent.
“Based on our experience with Toyota and the industry, we’re betting on the Nissan brand, which has a range of attractive models with a wide range of technological features,” Martínez said.
