Bahía Beach Resort nabs environmental award

The International Association of Golf Tour Operators recently recognized the Bahía Beach Resort & Golf Club for its commitment to environmental conservation, bestowing the property with its highest award in the “Nature Conservation” category.
“We are very proud to receive this award as it validates the efforts of conservation that for years have characterized Bahia Beach,” said Martin Smith, managing director of Bahía Beach. “We are committed to the environmental sustainability of Puerto Rico, while providing the highest standards of service to our members, residents and guests. That such a renowned international organization recognizes our efforts motivates us to continue along the path of conservation and education that defines Bahia Beach.”
The Bahía Beach Resort & Golf Club, along with the St Regis Bahia Beach Resort, have a comprehensive nature conservation program that includes wildlife conservation, habitat preservation and recovery, water conservation and monitoring, invasive species control and environmental education and outreach. In addition, both Bahía and the St Regis work hand in hand with both public and private organizations, particularly related to endangered species projects, property management said.
The IAGTO Sustainability Awards, in partnership with the Golf Environment Organization, recognize the social and environment excellence of golf resorts around the globe being known worldwide as the most important awards in the industry. The organization currently has about 2,225 members who submit their work for evaluation in order to be considered for an award.
Bahía Beach Resort is recognized as one of the 21 resorts around the world designated as a Certified Gold Audubon International Signature Sanctuary, the only resort in the Caribbean with this recognition.
