BioLeap, the bioscience incubator run by parallel18, has opened applications for its third cohort in Puerto Rico, extending its effort to help scientists and entrepreneurs move biotechnology and life science projects from the lab to the market.

The free 26-week program combines mentoring, technical assistance and access to the Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust’s facilities and resources. Participants spend 12 weeks in workshops and 14 weeks receiving guidance in finance, operations, grant writing, marketing and communications.

“In addition to business education, participants receive strategic connections to other Trust programs,” said Lucy Crespo, chief executive of the Science Trust. “These collaborations foster the convergence of science, technology and innovation.”

Since its creation, BioLeap has supported founders in biotechnology, medical devices, diagnostics and digital health who have collectively raised more than $5 million in funding. Through parallel18, participants gain workspace and access to networks that help them develop prototypes, establish business structures and pursue patents aimed at global commercialization.

“At parallel18, we firmly believe that innovation and science can transform Puerto Rico’s economy,” said Héctor Jirau, the organization’s executive director. “BioLeap is key to bringing discoveries from the laboratory to the market.”

BioLeap is supported by a Build to Scale grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration. Applications are open until Dec. 12, 2025.
