‘Caribbean Health Summit’ to focus on medical tourism

Puerto Rico is moving quickly to position itself as a leading medical tourism destination in the Caribbean and Latin America, looking to become the preferred choice of potential patients from the U.S. mainland.
During the first “Caribbean Health Summit” taking place at the Caribe Hilton Hotel on Thursday, Puerto Rico hospitals and service providers will present their services and benefits to potential buyers, investors and healthcare executives interested in the potential of the island as a destination in this medical market.
“The Caribbean Health Summit will serve as a platform to present specialized health services offered by hospitals and local providers who have been trained and certified by the Medical Tourism Association,” said Francisco Bonet, executive director of the Puerto Rico Medical Tourism Corporation.
“The Puerto Rico Medical Tourism Corporation’s strategic plan requires these certifications to participate in the promotional and marketing opportunities to attract patients to the island wishing to have first-rate medical treatment at a lower price than they would get elsewhere,” he said.
The Caribbean Health Summit’s lineup of conferences will focus on trends and best practices of medical tourism worldwide and the importance of maintaining quality through training and certifications offered by the Medical Tourism Corporation.
Caribbean Health Summit will offer medical professionals and healthcare providers the opportunity to explore business potential in the medical tourism market in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
