Casa Pitusa Muebles furniture stores to open Dec. 4

Super Buy Furniture, a new company backed by local furniture chain Mueblerías Berríos, confirmed Thursday that it will reopen the 22 stores it picked up from retailer Pitusa as Casa Pitusa Muebles y Enseres on Dec. 4.
The new owners said the addition of the new stores will represent an additional $30 million in sales for the Berríos operation and pushes to 86 the number of establishments islandwide.
“The acquisition of Casa Pitusa Muebles y Enseres represents a great opportunity for us, not only to expand our business, but to also increase and improve our offer to thousands of Puerto Rican who seek greater value for their money when shopping for home furniture,” said Janice Berríos, director of finance for Empresas Berríos.
Casa Pitusa Muebles y Enseres will maintain its personality, position to offer more value for their money and all its employees, but with the support of Super Buy Furniture, a company backed by Empresas Berríos, which also owns Mueblerías Berríos, Berríos Outlets, Rent Xpress and a real estate company.
Being part of this group means more inventory, price competitiveness, technology and buying power, Berríos said.
As this media outlet informado earlier this week, retailer Pitusa sold its furniture business as part of a strategy to streamline and consolidate its operation, which has taken a hit in recent years partly due to the island’s economic conditions.
However, the new owners are betting “on Puerto Rico’s economic future, reason for which we’ve taken this step,” Berríos concluded.
