The Center for Economic Renewal, Growth and Excellence (Centro Crece) has launched PROSPERA, a two-year initiative aimed at promoting economic freedom and prosperity in Puerto Rico through reforms to bureaucracy, taxes and innovation.

The program was unveiled during the PROSPERA Summit at Piloto 151 in Santurce, which brought together leaders from the private sector, government, academia and nonprofit organizations.

“With PROSPERA, we are opening new furrows to cultivate solutions that improve the business environment in Puerto Rico and promote development,” said Luis G. Fortuño, founder of Centro Crece and former governor of Puerto Rico. “This is an initiative focused on concrete actions and results to achieve the goals we all share.”

Executive Director Tere Nolla said PROSPERA was inspired by the findings of Crece’s “Freedom to Prosper” study, which showed that most Puerto Ricans want greater economic and individual freedom to work, start businesses and pursue their goals.

“We want to boost sensible solutions that align with citizens’ priorities and honor Puerto Rico’s fiscal responsibility,” she said.

The project will move forward in several stages, beginning with the publication of the “Prosperity Declaration,” followed by an eight-month public education campaign to raise awareness about the proposed reforms and gather feedback. After two years, Centro Crece will release a report detailing measurable outcomes.

PROSPERA has already received international recognition from the Atlas Network, which selected the program as one of 10 global initiatives in its Smart Bets 2025 cohort, noting its focus on inclusive prosperity and practical reform.
